Cae'r-frân: Burn's Night Celebration 23/01/2026 - 25/01/2026
Theme:
Normal winter mountaineering plus a Burns Night evening (non traditional)
Description:
Join us for a Scottish themed meal to celebrate Robbie Burns Night. Enjoy typical MMC craic around the table plus any contributions to entertain each other you come up with. The basic premise is to share some words - that may be a joke, a song, a story or a poem. Previously members have recited or read a poem meaningful to them such as welcoming a new baby to their family or remembering shared adventures. Think of the poem or song lyric being like a mate to you. Maybe they've marked important moments, provided warmth, strength or fun.
'Ernie the fastest milkman in the West' and a different vibe with John Cooper Clarke poems have both gone down a treat. One year, a bloke wrote a poem in the car on the journey to the hut while fabulously a member completed a poem they'd been working on for a few years just to share on the night. Others have sung classical, jazz, folk or rock. Another member created a quiz with all answers to do with the name Robert or the word burns and Shirley once had us all writing our own 'Odes to Whisky'.
But but but ... it's mainly about your company and fun so most importantly is to just bring yourself as performance anxiety should never be a thing. Feel welcome to join us if you'd simply like to listen and/ or bring some words to share.
Please note that hillwalking, when there is snow lying, requires an ice-axe, crampons and the knowledge, experience and skill to use them correctly.
