BH Arran Wild Camping 23/05/2025 - 26/05/2025

Theme:
Exploring, camping, climbing
Description:
Relatively easy to get to, Arran is a beautiful island with many attractions for the adventurous wild camper: wild camping, rock climbing, hill walking, wildlife spotting, archaeology, swimming.

This is a climbing and walking meet. It will be wild-camping (with the possible use also of the Glen Rosa Campsite just outside Brodick, and at the base of Glen Rosa). Thus, it is SELF-CATERING. Brodick, however, offers a range of options for eating out.

The plan is to take the ferry from Ardrossan to Brodick. There are three or four ferries per day. Cost is £10.20 return for a foot passenger; £41.00 return for a car; £41.00 for a campervan. Tickets can be purchased at https://ticketing.calmac.co.uk/B2C-Calmac/#/desktop/step1/destinations/single

Outward ferry times on Thursdays (assuming leaving Liverpool on the Thursday morning) 1800 - Brodick 1855; Friday 0935; 12.30 1520; 1600; 2030.

Return ferries on Mondays and Tuesdays: 0820; 1105; 1355; 1640; 1920.

It is necessary to be at the port at least 30 minutes before ferry departure.

Meet attendees are free to make their own way to Ardrossan. My plan is to take my Campervan over on the ferry, aiming to get the 1800 ferry on the Thursday, in order to maximize time and to avoid Bank Holiday traffic - returning Tuesday morning. If some want to travel with me, there is room for 3 for the journey, and we can use the van to transport team gear (ferry foot passengers are welcome to do so, as are those wanting to leave their car in Ardrossan). This will make getting to Glen Rosa easier and gives us some logistical freedom on the island.

Glen Rosa gives access to the high tops and to climbing on Chir Mor.

Glen Sannox is another option for wild-camping, possibly dropping down there from the more southerly Glen Rosa. This gives access to North Goatfell and Casteal Abhail.
