Directions: From Keswick take B5289 road to Borrowdale and after 3 miles turn right for Grange village over the double humpbacked bridge. After going over the bridge, follow the road round for 200 metres, going past 2 cafes on your left hand side. Immediately after the 2nd cafe, turn left down the lane signposted Hollows Farm and continue for 1/2 mile.

Borrowdale is the perfect place to develop your trad climbing skills. It's a valley with a long and storied climbing history where many have honed their practice over the years.

The volcanic rhyolite here is a rock favoured by rock climbers as it is full of features and friction (apart from the odd spot where it has worn through with the passage of hundreds of climbers).

The many rock climbing crags to choose from include: Shepherds Crag, Black Crag, Gillercombe, Raven Crag, Bowderstone Crag and Buckstone How.

As well as brilliant rock climbs, there are also excellent hill walking opportunities,
